外文新书选介：怀疑论史、人格同一性、麦克多尔读本

    这个选介系列不是正儿八经的介绍、书评，基本上就是提供新书的信息而已。

    1．Richard H. Popkin, The History of Scepticism: From Savonarola to Bayle. Revised and Expanded Edition. Oxford University Press, 2003。【《怀疑论史：从萨沃纳罗拉到贝尔》】

    Popkin是近代哲学研究的专家，尤其在怀疑论方面研究很深，已有54年的功力。此书是他1979年的《怀疑论史：从伊拉斯谟到斯宾诺莎》（The History of Scepticism: from Erasmus to Spinoza, Berkeley and Los Angeles: University of California Press, 1979.）的修订、扩展版，而79年的版本又是1960年版本（《从伊拉斯谟到笛卡尔》）的扩充版。

    此书正文18章，分别讨论了：宗教改革时期的思想危机；16世纪希腊怀疑论的复兴；蒙田与新皮浪思想；新皮浪主义的影响；法国自由思想家；反攻开始；建设性的或温和的怀疑论；切伯利的赫尔伯特和让·德·希尔翁；笛卡尔：怀疑论的征服者；笛卡尔：Sceptique Malgré Lui；对怀疑论的某些精神的和宗教的回答与笛卡尔；对怀疑论的政治与实践的回答：霍布斯；皇家学会的哲学节：威尔金斯、波义尔和克兰威尔；圣经批评与宗教怀疑论的开端；斯宾诺莎的怀疑论与反怀疑论；怀疑论与17世纪后期的形而上学；新怀疑论者：西蒙·傅歇与皮埃尔－丹尼尔·于埃（Huet）；波义尔：超级怀疑论与启蒙运动独断论的开端。

    2．Martin, Raymond and Barresi, John (ed), Personal Identity, Blackwell Publishing, 2003.【《人格同一性》】

    人格同一性问题是英美哲学非常关注的问题，我搜了一下，仅Blackwell就出版过70部著作涉及这个问题，而此书附录中也列出了1970年以来的74部相关著作，不少著作的名字就是personal identity。本书是一部基础性读本，“Blackwell哲学选读系列”之一，作者都是大名鼎鼎，文章也是相当有名，编者的导言也十分精彩，不仅考察了从古希腊到20世纪的人格同一性理论，也考察了20世纪70年代以来，哲学家的观点基本上从关于人格同一性的内在关系理论转向了外在关系。

    3．Nicholas H. Smith, Reading McDowell: On Mind and World, Routledge, 2002. 【《麦克多尔读本》】

    麦克多尔凭他的《心灵与世界》一书名声大振，步入20世纪原创性思想家的行列，研究著作也纷纷出现，其中不乏名家评述。本书便收集了这样的专论，以帮助读者深入了解麦克多尔。像麦克多尔、布兰顿等这样在英美学界非常令人瞩目的哲学家，我们的介绍和研究还太少，其中一个很重要的原因是大部分国内学者对“分析哲学”的傲慢与偏见，无知者无畏嘛。一个好消息是麦克多尔的这部名著已经有人在翻译了。
